Vall d’Hebron Institute
of Oncology (VHIO)


VHIO is a comprehensive cancer center focused in precision and personalized Oncology medicine. VHIO’s clinical and preclinical scientists converge in a translational research model, working in multidisciplinary teams both accelerate and advance the development of the best therapies against cancer.

Research at VHIO is organized into three main programs: Preclinical/Translational, Clinical and Core Technologies. The research groups and programs within these areas work in a highly multidisciplinary and coordinated way thanks the establishment of the taskforces, created to support specific topics and sub-disciplines.

The institute in embedded in the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Campus and closely linked to the Medical Oncology Department of the Vall d’Hebron, including more than 50 staff medical oncologists, in addition to fellows, clinical study coordinators, clinical study assistants, research nurses and clinical pharmacists.

Role in CCE_DART

VHIO will primarily contribute to the Scientific Coordination and Clinical counseling (WP1), dealing with the prioritization of specific clinical scenarios and ensuring that the scientific scope of the project is maintained in order to maximize the clinical meaningfulness of the project efforts; and to the overall Project Coordination and Management (WP15-17), ensuring the timely fulfilment of the project objectives to the highest scientific standards and promoting collaboration with other projects and initiatives. VHIO will also participate in WP4 and WP5 with clinical data and multi-omics molecular data through a data sharing and analysis platform used as a testbed for analytical methods and biomarker discovery co-development.

Finally, the project management team at VHIO will lead all the dissemination activities necessary to maximize the impact of the project results (WP18 and WP19).

VHIO is the sponsor of Basket of Basket trial, which is used as a stepping platform to develop the CCE_DART proposal.
